become a better painter

It all started when…

I embraced a record of process.

I use art as an enjoyable adventure, a exploration of curiosity, not that much different than running expedition rafting trips, each experience in relationship and awarenesses of the process, discoveries are made, skills improved.

I have been teaching wilderness appreciation on the river for 30 years, teaching adults painting for over 20. I find the river and teaching art are not that different, my successes have been to help facilitate discovery by creating a new awareness.

Art is a specific awareness that can be taught and nurtured, and many an student starts off saying that they can’t draw a stick figure and I reply that, even with just a stick figure, many degrees of expression are made, how confident the line, does it have fingers or a face, even your signature is so unique it’s used on your checks. Compare all our stick figures drawn in 10 seconds and see how unique and different we all are.

Using the psychology of sight and an understanding of what an aesthetic is (we all have our own), we will discover a changed mind shifting from a place of judgement, to a place of spacial recognition, looking for scales of elements, like notes in a song, and I promise an exciting journey.

I advocate for a fun and engaging learning environment that effectively teaches art appreciation, promotes creativity and encourages growing independence.

I ensure that all students are able to grasp the material and enhance their personal skills.

My Goal is to increase awareness and understanding of art as painting, demystify the process, get you painting with increased confidence and control. I welcome an opportunity to discuss how my experience and skillset can benefit you.
